Contraction Flows of Highly-Elastic Liquids : Experiment and Simulation
نویسندگان
چکیده
It is well known that highly elastic liquids can exhibit flow characteristics which are markedly different from those found in Newtonian liquids. Nowhere is this better seen than in the case of Contraction Flows, whether axisymmetric or planar. Figure 1 shows the phenomenon of ‘vortex enhancement’, where the corner vortex (which is present in Newtonian liquids) is increased in size, often in an extravagant manner. Whether the enhancement is due to the growth of the salient corner (Newtonian) vortex or results from the appearance and ultimate domination of a so called ‘lip vortex’ (see Fig 2) is a very provocative question which has yet to be fully understood.

Simulation of Free Surface Viscoelastic Fluid Flow Using the viscoelasticInterFoam Solver
The understanding of polymeric fluids flows is of essential importance for several industry sectors, including plastic and food processing industries. The rheological response of viscoelastic fluids is quite complex, including combination of viscous and elastic effects and highly non-linear viscous and elastic phenomena. In a previous work we presented a solver for internal viscoelastic fluid f...
متن کاملStability of Multilayer Extrusion of Viscoelastic Liquids
A linear stability analysis of multilayer plane Poiseuille flow of Oldroyd-B liquids with shear rate dependent viscosities is performed for an arbitrary number of layers. Asymptotic solutions at long wavelengths and numerical solutions at wavelengths of O(1) are obtained for two-dimensional infinitesimal disturbances. The asymptotic solutions are identical for viscoelastic and Newtonian liquids...
متن کاملModeling of viscoelastic lid driven cavity flow using finite element simulations
In this study we have used a convergent and highly accurate mixed finite element technique to model the effect of fluid elasticity on the flow kinematics and the stress distribution in lid driven cavity flow. Our work is motivated by the desire to capture the important physical aspects of the basic flow and thus to better understand the purely elastic instability in recirculating flows which ha...

Physically based animations of variety of substances offers automatic generation of realistic simulations of many natural behavior of the substances in real world. Various deformable models, collision detection and responses techniques are available for simulating behaviors of substances with wide rage of physical properties which includes non viscous fluids, elastic and viscoelastic solids. متن کاملA new numerical framework to simulate viscoelastic free-surface flows with the finite- volume method
A new method for the simulation of 2D viscoelastic flow is presented. Numerical stability is obtained by the logarithmic-conformation change of variable, and a fully-implicit pure-streamfunction flow formulation, without use of any artificial diffusion. As opposed to other simulation results, our calculations predict a hydrodynamic instability in the 4:1 contraction geometry at a Weissenberg nu...
